Frequently asked questions
What is Medicare, and who qualifies for it?
Medicare is a federal health insurance program primarily for people aged 65 and older, though certain younger individuals with disabilities or specific conditions may also qualify. To be eligible, you must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident who has lived in the U.S. for at least five consecutive years.
What are the different parts of Medicare, and what do they cover?
Part A covers hospital stays, skilled nursing facilities, and some home health care.
Part B covers doctor visits, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services.
Part C (Medicare Advantage) offers an alternative to Parts A and B, providing additional coverage through private insurance companies.
Part D covers prescription drugs.
When should I sign up for Medicare?
You should enroll in Medicare during your Initial Enrollment Period, which begins three months before you turn 65 and ends three months after your birthday month. If you miss this window, you may face late enrollment penalties unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
Can I change my Medicare plan after enrolling?
Yes! During the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) from October 15 to December 7, you can switch plans, join a new Medicare Advantage plan, or make changes to your Part D prescription drug coverage. There are also Special Enrollment Periods that allow for changes under certain circumstances, like moving to a new area or losing other coverage.
Family Legacy Plus represents Medicare Advantage HMO, PPO, PFFS, MediGap/Medicare Supplement and Prescription Drug Plan organizations that have a Medicare contract and/or a Medicare-approved Part D sponsor. Enrollment depends on the plan’s contract renewal. Enrollment in a plan may be limited to certain times of the year unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period or you are in your Medicare Initial Enrollment Period. Not all plans offer all of these benefits. Benefits may vary by carrier and location. Limitations and exclusions may apply. Every year, Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-star rating system.
